On this day: this was three years back, and I reckon I'm only just getting over the effing hangover I had that day.

After an epic journey to reach Przemysl the day before, I got a little over-excited and proceeded to cause havoc in a string of bars around town. The following day, I slept through my alarm and woke up realizing it was about four minutes till kick-off. GARGH 😮

I'm glad I made the effort, for this is a brilliant little ground, but in all honesty its beauty was lost on me - my abiding memory of the match is tipping bottles of water over my head in a desperate bid to haul myself from the edge of death 💀

A repeat visit is definitely demanded, and I reckon this season will be the one - quite possibly the Przemysl derby, provided that is the match goes ahead as planned.

This is something of an oversight, as their ruined home is one of the greatest treasures you'll find if you stand 'against modern football'. But get here while you can - its destruction / reconstruction awaits 😭

This monster of a stand though 😍 In terms of capacity, it can't be that big, but the elevation of the seating and the height of the roof seem to inflate the proportions.

Love my trips to Zawisza Bydgoszcz, and Wednesday was particularly kind to me with a fine summer dusk providing the perfect conditions in which to snap pictures.

I had planned to head to Warmia Grajewo today, but took one look at my hangover, and another at the temperature gauge, and have decided to sit in a fridge for the rest of the weekend.

So instead, here's another snap from Wednesday's match at Zawisza - more specifically, the show put on by Zawisza on the stroke of 60 minutes outside the ground 🎉

By my estimate, there were probably around 200 in there, including a sizable contingent of Lechia Gdansk who turned up mid-way through the first-half to lend support to Gryf.

An extraordinary day at Czuwaj yesterday for the Przemysl derby, and one I shan't forget in a hurry...

So... here's how my luck went on Sunday. Waking up at 4.50 a.m., I hot-footed it down to the station and found that my direct train to Przemysl was anything but... Two trains and a bus later, I arrived in town at just before 1.

Few pints to fix me up, and then off down the match - now, while it was known Polonia's fans wouldn't be there, I think everyone was a bit surprised when Polonia's players didn't turn up either... As it turns out, they were blocked from going by their own supporters.

Long story short, after 15 mins of waiting around, the ref blew the whistle to give the home-side the walkover 😭

Fortunately, I did find a train to take me back to Warsaw right after the match, but that was standing room only for half of the journey.

Could anything else go wrong? Sure. A couple of hours into the return trip, the air-con went on the fritz. With Poland roasting in temperatures of 32 degrees yesterday, that meant a joyless journey back inside a microwave 😂

No kidding, when I finally rolled home at 1 a.m., I looked like i'd done a month of jungle training with the SAS 🌴🥵

Weird thing is, I did enjoy yesterday's comedy of catastrophe, and I'm already buzzing for my next trip on Wednesday 🎉💯 bring it on!

I've had quite a slow start to the season, but I'm really looking forward to amping it up this week - Zawisza Bydgoszcz v Gryf Supsk on Weds, Jagiellonia Bialystok v Ajax on Thursday and Warmia Grajewo v Sparta Szepietowo next Saturday.

But before all that, I am buzzing to be heading back to Czuwaj tomorrow for the Przemysl derby. This isn't just one of the best stadiums in Poland, it's got to be one of the best in the world - I can't wait to catch a derby there. Unfortunately, it's going to be without away fans but I'm still expecting an absolutely banging atmosphere 🔥

On this day: I'm not sure there's a ground in Poland that better expresses the romance of football than the home of Cisowianka Drzewce.

These pics are from three years back - I believe I'm right in saying that an unprecedented promotion forced them to move to Naleczow down the road... and in the meantime, plans are afoot to build a new plastic stand in place of what exists. I hope I'm wrong, sadly I don't think I am 😢

On this day... Two years back, here I was to watch

On this day... Two years back, here I was to watch Rakow Czestochowa beat Spartak Trnava in the Europa Conference League qualifiers.

The temporary nature of this ground - and especially its away pen - is often mocked by other Polish fans, but personally I find that this ground has far more character than the vast majority in the top flight.

I was highly immobile this match as was on crutches, never realized it would be so hard photographing without the use of one leg 😬

Fortunately, my hotel that night doubled up as a brewery, meaning I didn't have much hopping about to do after the match - after nearly three weeks at home nursing a bastard ACL injury, it felt fabulous to return to the football trail 🍺

No football for me today, but seeing I went banana

No football for me today, but seeing I went bananas posting about Lublin last week, I figured I'd throw this picture up of the city's second side, KS Lublinianka - unfortunately, they've since knocked this epic bowl down, and in its place sits one temporary plastic stand.

In its previous incarnation, this stadium breathed history - built by Jewish slave labour during the war, it served as a Nazi sports field during the occupation. In fact, one of the principal antagonists of the Holocaust, Odilo Globocnik, had a villa around the corner.

If I'm right, this was actually built on top of a Jewish cemetery, and of the labour detail assigned to its construction, only one person lived to see the end of WWII.

Outside of the war, the stadium's story also includes a visit by Lech Walesa who spoke here in front of thousands at the height of Poland's Solidarity protests.

A cracking stadium this was, sad that it was bulldozed for no apparent reason.

On this day: three years back I concluded a wonderful few days in Lublin with this match, Motor Lublin v Ruch Chorzow - and what a night this was 🔥

This was a curtain raiser for the third tier (I think!), with the opening match long built up on social media. For Motor, this was their first game at this level for donkey's years, while for Ruch, one of the most successful sides in Polish football, it was also the beginning of their renaissance having hit a low a few seasons prior.

Brilliant evening this was, as I hope you can see from these snaps of the away enclosure.

On this day(ish): Three years back I was checking into one of my favourite cities, Lublin, for a three-match weekend that included a diversionary trip down the road to Avia Swidnik for their tie against Stal Stalowa Wola.

A smart ground is this, with the most notable feature being this prim main stand. That said, for me the highlight was the taxi back to Lublin - my driver was an old school ex-Motor Lublin hooligan, who fondly recalled to me how he got kicked out of his home in the 90s after his mum saw him pictured in the paper attacking Avia fans 😂

In the wild world of Polish away cages, the enclosure at fourth tier Mlawianka Mlawa is up there with the best - there really is nothing more to it than a fence surrounding a grass bank and a portaloo at the back 😍

I was delighted to see it open for the visit of GKS Belchatow on Saturday, and their following was rewarded with an opening day point. Wishing them luck for the rest of the season, would love to see them climb the leagues 💯

No football for me today, but seeing I went banana

No football for me today, but seeing I went bananas posting about Lublin last week, I figured I'd throw this picture up of the city's second side, KS Lublinianka - unfortunately, they've since knocked this epic bowl down, and in its place sits one temporary plastic stand.

In its previous incarnation, this stadium breathed history - built by Jewish slave labour during the war, it served as a Nazi sports field during the occupation. In fact, one of the principal antagonists of the Holocaust, Odilo Globocnik, had a villa around the corner.

If I'm right, this was actually built on top of a Jewish cemetery, and of the labour detail assigned to its construction, only one person lived to see the end of WWII.

Outside of the war, the stadium's story also includes a visit by Lech Walesa who spoke here in front of thousands at the height of Poland's Solidarity protests.

A cracking stadium this was, sad that it was bulldozed for no apparent reason.

On this day: three years back I concluded a wonderful few days in Lublin with this match, Motor Lublin v Ruch Chorzow - and what a night this was 🔥

This was a curtain raiser for the third tier (I think!), with the opening match long built up on social media. For Motor, this was their first game at this level for donkey's years, while for Ruch, one of the most successful sides in Polish football, it was also the beginning of their renaissance having hit a low a few seasons prior.

Brilliant evening this was, as I hope you can see from these snaps of the away enclosure.

I'd been there several times before, yet this was the first time I'd seen this mural painted onto the club HQ 😍

On this day(ish): Three years back I was checking into one of my favourite cities, Lublin, for a three-match weekend that included a diversionary trip down the road to Avia Swidnik for their tie against Stal Stalowa Wola.

A smart ground is this, with the most notable feature being this prim main stand. That said, for me the highlight was the taxi back to Lublin - my driver was an old school ex-Motor Lublin hooligan, who fondly recalled to me how he got kicked out of his home in the 90s after his mum saw him pictured in the paper attacking Avia fans 😂

In the wild world of Polish away cages, the enclos

In the wild world of Polish away cages, the enclosure at fourth tier Mlawianka Mlawa is up there with the best - there really is nothing more to it than a fence surrounding a grass bank and a portaloo at the back 😍

I was delighted to see it open for the visit of GKS Belchatow on Saturday, and their following was rewarded with an opening day point. Wishing them luck for the rest of the season, would love to see them climb the leagues 💯

Very chilled out evening there, with huge plus points going to this belter of a main stand. I've no idea when it was built, but they sure don't make them like this anymore 😍
