Trying to clear my work to enable a trip to Korona Kielce this weekend - love the city, and really rate their fans 👌

My last trip to Kielce was actually pretty much this time last year to see their 'B' side take on Unia Tarnow - I love how the old stadium is still used by the reserves, and it's truly a treasure: a rusty grandstand embellished in the colours of Melchester Rovers, curving banks of seating in the process of being swallowed by nature, and a mediaeval away cage that, in this instance, was put to use by the eight or so visiting Unia fans. If in Kielce, I highly recommend tracking down this archaeological relic - it's an absolute old school beauty 😍

Another google reminder! So, on this day two years back I was in Tychy for an invigorating match loaded with hate. So much happening at this game that basically I resorted to spray and pray camera work and essentially took over a thousand photos hoping a few would come out 📸

I've had Pasjonat Dankowice on my 'to do' list for years - finally, I can now mark it 'done' 🎉

Beautifully prim-looking ground framed by a phalanx of trees, and a lovely club house that's the epitome of Polish hospitality 🍺This goes down as one of my favourite grounds in Poland, just a magical place that felt all the better for being savoured on a warm, dusky evening👌😍

Five years ago to the day I found myself in Krakow for a brilliantly entertaining banger held in the same antiquated stadium that England used as their training camp during Euro 2012.

If I recall rightly, Motor were 5-0 down at half-time but rallied strongly in the second to pull it back to 5-3 - hitting the post in the final minutes, the woodwork put a stop to what would have been an epic, grandstand finish.

Not that the game needed much more - the support from both sides was exceptional, with the ground rocking throughout much of the 90 minutes 🔥💯

Love this ground to bits, a real old school gem capable of generating a red hot atmosphere - with the days ticking down till GKS move to a new stadium, I'm pushing out the stops to make sure I'm there at the weekend 🤞

On this day two years back I was at Igloopol - for me, one of the best old school grounds there was.

I'd done this fixture the year previously - my last match before the bat virus hit us for six 🦠😷

That time I was treated to a crazy game that had it all: pitch invasions, punch-ups, pyro, tear gas, etc. 🔥👊

Took amazing pics that day, and then promptly lost them a cpl of months later while trying to organize my laptop 😢💔💻

A year later, I had high hopes for a re-run, only to find the complete opposite - a lackluster affair played in front of a sparse, disinterested crowd in baking conditions 🥵 The away lot (pictured in the first image), left at half-time, and I think I joined the exodus a few minutes later.

On the plus side, the trip did give me the chance to photograph this ground once again. It turns out, in the nick of time, for within months the away terrace had been flattened for no discernible reason 🤬 Infuriating as that remains, I'm thankful that at least I had a chance to enjoy this place one last time before the bulldozers got to work 😐

Headed to Wroclaw for the England match, but whilst I'm not a fan of their new stadium - a place which, like every other modern ground, spectacularly fails to evoke the romance of football - the opposite stands for the former home of Slask Wroclaw.

Still used by the 'B' side, the ground at Oporowska is an old school treasure that reeks of history - what a beaut 😍

Back in 2021 I was fortunate enough to catch the stadium at CKS Czeladz in its final throes before its complete renovation. By this stage, the concrete terracing had already been demolished and replaced, but the main stand stood in all its ruined glory 😍

The match finished 15-2, but I surpassed myself by missing fifteen of those goals - but who can blame me, honestly I found myself utterly and hopelessly bewitched by this beauty of a stand 👏🔥

Aside from boasting a striking setting in the shadow of a former monastery, it's round the corner from a cracking British run craft ale pub founded by a Burnley fan 😮🍺

Very enjoyable day in Bielsko-Biala yesterday with GKS Katowice's army of fans putting in a world class vocal performance that was as good as I have ever heard 👏

After a while, you get used to mad pyro shows in Poland, so it made a change to instead see their 3,000 followers launch into a quite stunning ticker tape show that held the game up for several minutes - absolutely epic to watch 👑🙌

As if I didn't know already, you should never plan ahead when it comes to Polski football 🤬

Having booked trains and a hotel for a Saturday in Silesia, on Friday it was announced that one of my main reasons for going - a game between Ledziny and Odra Wodizslaw - would be played behind closed doors on police orders 🤡

Cue, a last-minute reshuffle of plans and a trip, instead, to Plock to see the unveiling of their new stadium - as grounds go, it's a repeat of every other modern ground in Poland, but the atmosphere was every bit as good as expected. In particular, the second half was absolutely banging - credit to both sides for a great evening 👌

⚽🏆 Mieszko Gniezno v Jarota Jarocin

Loved my visit to Mieszko Gniezno: a wonderful stadium with a classic away cage plopped into a vast tribune that backs onto an abandoned hotel that looks like something from Scooby Doo.

But there was more: a smart little VIP stand, a balaclava-wearing security guard with a Simpsons tattoo, lashings of beer and great hospitality from the locals that I met - happy days 😍👏🍺

⚽🏆 Mieszko Gniezno v Jarota Jarocin

Loved my visit to Mieszko Gniezno: a wonderful stadium with a classic away cage plopped into a vast tribune that backs onto an abandoned hotel that looks like something from Scooby Doo.

But there was more: a smart little VIP stand, a balaclava-wearing security guard with a Simpsons tattoo, lashings of beer and great hospitality from the locals that I met - happy days 😍👏🍺
