Experience
It’s been a while since I’ve been walloped in the nuts by a self-inflicted disaster, so when catastrophe hit me in Lodz it felt like greeting an annoying old friend. To cut a long story short, I had just reached Widzew’s ground when I looked into my bag and realized that I had somehow lost my favourite camera. GAAAARGH!
Anyway, after spending the next hour screaming at the sky and lamenting my general ineptitude, I was delighted to receive a phone call from my Uber driver who garbled something in Polish about having my prized bit of kit. You beauty! The caveat: he’d clocked off work. With my train leaving right after kick-off, I’d have to return another time to reclaim my camera. Well, I’ve had worse news.
On the downside, that left me shooting with a lens not ideally suited for football, hence the rather limited nature of this album. Still, with my mood restored this proved an enjoyable match to cover even if it failed to hit the volatile heights of these sides previous meetings – with Lech enjoying a close alliance with LKS Lodz, this fixture has been known to get spicy.
There was no skullduggery this time around, but an epic second-half pyro show from Widzew left a memorable mark on a very pleasant night. I could write more and probably should write more, but seeing I’ve got a train in a few hours I’ll leave it at that. Cheers!
